The Buddha is shown wearing a monastic robe draped over the left shoulder, the finely rendered folds falling in rhythmic arcs across the body and cascading in vertical pleats along the left side. The serene face is framed by elongated earlobes and tightly curled hair surmounted by a low ushnisha. Traces of extensive age-related patination and encrustation remain throughout. The sculpture displays the restrained elegance and spiritual calm characteristic of Sri Lankan Buddhist art of the Polonnaruwa period.

The crossed-arm standing Buddha is among the most distinctive sculptural types of medieval Sri Lanka and is closely associated with the artistic traditions that flourished under the Polonnaruwa kingdom during the 11th–13th centuries. Bronze examples of this iconography are considerably rarer than their stone counterparts and reflect the refined metalworking traditions of the island's Buddhist monastic centres. The present figure preserves the dignified simplicity and balanced proportions that define the finest Sri Lankan Buddhist bronzes of the period.
