The vase is of compressed globular form with a tall cylindrical neck rising to a slightly everted rim. It is covered overall in a deep oxblood red (sang-de-boeuf) glaze with subtle crackle, pooling more darkly around the shoulder and rim. The glaze thins at the mouth to reveal a paler tone, and the footrim is left unglazed, exposing the buff-colored body with a central glazed circle at the base.

The flambé glaze, with its rich red tones and characteristic crackling, is a celebrated achievement of Qing dynasty ceramic artistry, inspired by the earlier Jun wares of the Song period. Such vessels were appreciated at the imperial court for their dramatic monochrome glazes, which symbolized refinement and auspicious vitality.
