Carved from a rich, mottled green jade, this upright table screen is finely worked in high relief with auspicious motifs. On the obverse, a bat with outstretched wings appears at the lower register, symbolising blessings and good fortune (fu). Above, a blossoming prunus branch with a pair of birds perching amidst flowers represents harmony and marital happiness, while a spray of narcissus rises to the left, associated with purity and renewal. The reverse is left undecorated, showing the natural veining and texture of the stone.

The plaque is set into a carved wooden stand with openwork scrolling patterns, designed for display within the scholar’s studio or household altar.

The imagery is deeply auspicious, combining the bat (fu, 福) for fortune, paired birds for conjugal harmony, and seasonal flowers for renewal and prosperity. Such jade table screens were admired during the Qing dynasty as expressions of refined taste, symbolic power, and as protective charms within domestic and ritual contexts.
