Of archaistic form, the vase is modeled with a square-sectioned body rising from a splayed circular foot to a cylindrical neck flanked by a pair of dragon-head handles. The surface is finely painted in underglaze cobalt blue with meandering lotus scrolls and foliage, the brushwork showing varied intensity of tone, a hallmark of Kangxi-period blue-and-white wares.

The recessed base bears a six-character Xuande reign mark (大明宣德年製, Da Ming Xuande nian zhi) within a double circle. The mark is apocryphal, as was common in the Kangxi period, when earlier Ming reign marks were used to honor classical prototypes and underline continuity with the prestigious Xuande imperial kilns of the early 15th century.

This vessel reflects the Kangxi emperor’s taste for archaism, reviving celebrated Ming forms and decoration while demonstrating the technical sophistication of Jingdezhen kilns in the 17th century.
