Porcelain, finely painted in underglaze cobalt blue. The centre decorated with a stylised floral composition issuing from pierced scholar’s rockwork, comprising chrysanthemum and flowering sprays arranged in a balanced, symmetrical design. The cavetto divided into alternating panels of floral sprays and diaper-pattern reserves, separated by washes of cobalt blue. The gently scalloped rim further enhances the rhythmic composition.

The reverse sparsely decorated with freely painted floral sprays and encircled by a double-line border, the recessed base with a central sketch mark. Mounted with later European silver fittings, probably 18th–19th century, attesting to early Western appreciation and adaptation of Chinese porcelain.

This dish belongs to a rare and refined group of Kangxi-period blue and white wares, distinguished by their confident brushwork, subtle tonal gradation of the cobalt and harmonious compositional structure. The combination of floral iconography and alternating geometric panels reflects the sophisticated decorative vocabulary of the late 17th to early 18th century.

A closely related example is preserved in the Hetjens Museum, Düsseldorf, catalogue no. 148, confirming the rarity and institutional importance of this type.
