THANGKA DEPICTING VASUDHARA TIBET 18TH TO 19TH CENTURY

Dimensions: Height 28 cm Wide 23 cm Depth 0,1 cm without frame

Weight: 210 grams

This finely painted Tibetan thangka portrays a multi-armed deity, possibly Vasudhara. The central figure is depicted seated in a dynamic pose on a lotus throne within a mandorla, surrounded by symbolic elements and smaller deities. Rich tones of red, orange, and blue dominate the composition, highlighting intricate detailing, including the deity's multiple arms holding various ritual implements.

Below the central deity are two accompanying figures: one depicted within a red-flamed aureole, possibly a wrathful protector, and another seated peacefully within a halo, likely Jambhala.

The textile is mounted within an original silk brocade border, now showing signs of age and wear, indicative of devotional use over centuries. The reverse features a faded and partially visible hand-painted inscription or consecration marks, likely denoting its ritual significance.

The thangka displays visible wear, including pigment loss, creases, and fraying to the textile borders consistent with its age and devotional use. The reverse side exhibits some deterioration, with areas of discoloration and fabric damage.

This thangka reflects the deeply symbolic artistry of Tibetan Buddhism, combining iconography, ritual function, and craftsmanship. Objects like these were created as tools for meditation and spiritual practice, often consecrated by monks and revered within monastic or private altars.
