(R) A FINE BALUSTER VASE ;FAMILLE ROSE , CHINA, GUANGXU PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

Dimensions: Height 41,5 cm Wide 21 cm Depth 21 cm

Weight 2836 grams

A finely potted baluster-shaped vase decorated in vibrant famille rose enamels with an extensive narrative scene depicting Xiwangmu, the Queen Mother of the West, within her mythical paradise. She is shown attended by elegantly dressed female immortals amid a rocky landscape enlivened by swirling clouds, pine trees, and a spotted deer—an auspicious symbol of longevity and immortality.

The scene is rendered with accomplished brushwork and a harmonious palette of soft pinks, greens, blues, and iron-red, demonstrating the refined decorative taste of the late Qing dynasty. The well-balanced proportions and gently flaring neck enhance the visual presence of the vessel, while the continuous composition wraps fluidly around the body.

Vases featuring Xiwangmu are highly prized for their rich symbolic meaning and auspicious associations. This example stands out for the clarity of its iconography, the quality of its enamelling, and its strong decorative appeal, making it a desirable addition to any collection of 19th-century Chinese porcelain.
