Porcelain, covered overall with a brick-red glaze. The bowl of deep rounded form, rising from a short, neatly cut foot to a gently flaring rim. The exterior and interior uniformly glazed, the colour firing to a warm, slightly variegated brick-red tone with subtle tonal variations. The footring left unglazed, revealing the pale porcelain body.

Monochrome bowls of this type were produced in the late 18th to early 19th century for everyday use as well as for refined table settings. The restrained form and emphasis on glaze colour reflect the long-standing Chinese appreciation for monochrome wares, where harmony of shape and surface takes precedence over decoration.
