The exterior is painted in underglaze cobalt blue with continuous figural scenes, depicting scholars and attendants engaged in leisurely pursuits within a landscape setting, animated by rocks, trees, and architectural elements.

The cobalt is of characteristic late Ming quality, showing a soft, slightly mottled tone with occasional darker pooling, consistent with Chongzhen-period production. The figures are rendered with lively outlines and simplified facial features, reflecting the spontaneous and expressive brushwork associated with the final decades of the Ming dynasty. The decoration is framed by simple linear borders at the shoulder and lower body.
