The shallow dish with slightly rounded sides rises from a short foot ring to a gently flaring rim. The interior is decorated with a central moulded lotus medallion surrounded by a diaper-pattern band, enclosed within a frieze of stylised key-fret motifs around the inner wall. The carving is covered in a translucent bluish-green celadon glaze, pooling in the recesses of the design to create depth and contrast, while the rim and foot reveal the buff stoneware body.

Celadon wares of this type, often associated with kilns in Zhejiang province such as Longquan, exemplify the refined taste of the Song dynasty, where subtle glaze tones and softly incised decoration were favoured over bright polychromy. The present dish, with its harmonious proportions and elegant restraint, reflects the aesthetic ideals of balance and quiet refinement that defined the period.
