Superbly cast with a dense ‘hobnail’ (arare) pattern, the rounded body rises to a short spout and is surmounted by a fitted lid with a knop finial. The bold overhead handle adds balance to the form. The base bears a foundry mark as well as the inscription “MADE IN JAPAN”, indicating production for export, yet executed in the finest Japanese tradition.

Tetsubin of this quality reflect the long tradition of iron casting in northern Japan, particularly in the celebrated Iwate region. While 20th-century examples were often destined for the international market, only a fraction display such refined modelling and preservation.

With its well-defined arare surface, complete lid, and elegant proportions, the present kettle represents a desirable collector’s piece, equally suited for connoisseurs of Japanese tea culture and for refined interior display.
