Carved from wood and richly decorated with gilt lacquer and inset coloured glass, the Buddha is shown standing in a graceful pose, the right hand lowered and holding the healing myrobalan fruit, identifying him as Bhaiṣajyaguru, the Medicine Buddha. The left hand lightly gathers the folds of his robe. The figure is draped in a flowing monastic garment, its hems elaborately inlaid with glass cabochons imitating precious stones. The serene face, with downcast eyes and a faint smile, is crowned by a high ushnīṣa with further glass inlay.

This image embodies the Mandalay style of the 19th century, characterized by slender proportions, refined facial features, and opulent use of gilding and glass decoration. The depiction of the cosmic healer holding the myrobalan fruit reflects the deep-rooted Buddhist association with healing and protection, making such sculptures particularly venerated in monastic and temple contexts.

Comparable examples of Medicine Buddha images are preserved in the National Museum, Yangon, and in several major private collections. The present sculpture, with its monumental scale and rare iconography of the cosmic physician, represents a remarkable and significant work of Burmese Buddhist art.
