(R) A PAIR OF GILT WOODEN PANELS CHINA 19TH CENTURY

The pair of rectangular wooden panels, finely carved in high relief and partially openworked, each depicting a continuous narrative scene with numerous standing and gesturing figures arranged beneath stylised architectural and vegetal elements. The figures, rendered with expressive postures and varied attributes, appear engaged in a lively procession or courtly scene.

The carvings retain extensive traces of gilt decoration, set against a red-lacquered ground, enhancing the visual depth and legibility of the relief. The reverse plain, indicating their original use as architectural or interior decorative panels, possibly from a domestic or temple setting.

For lots marked with (R), a 19% VAT is added to the combined hammer price and commission. This VAT is waived for:

- Private buyers outside the EU who officially export the items.
- Businesses inside the EU holding a valid VAT number, exporting to their home country.
