Finely cast bronze figure of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Infinite Compassion, depicted standing in a graceful frontal posture upon an integral base. The deity is represented with four faces and eight arms, reflecting his transcendent ability to perceive and respond to the suffering of beings throughout the universe. The principal hands are joined before the chest in anjali mudra, while the remaining hands originally held various attributes, now partly lost.

The figure wears an elaborate crown, large pendant earrings, necklaces, armlets and a richly ornamented lower garment. Numerous inset turquoise and coloured stone cabochons survive throughout the jewellery and crown, providing vivid accents against the dark bronze surface. The serene facial expression and refined modelling are characteristic of Tibetan bronze sculpture of the fifteenth century, a period marked by strong Newari artistic influence from Nepal.

The form relates to manifestations of Avalokiteshvara associated with universal compassion and omniscient perception. The harmonious proportions, detailed ornamentation and surviving stone inlays suggest the figure was created for use within a monastic shrine or private devotional setting.

Condition consistent with age, with losses to several attributes and the upper section of the crown, scattered wear to the surface and inlays, and old casting imperfections. Mounted on a later stand.
