The jug is of compressed globular form with a short cylindrical neck and flared rim, a strap handle joining the shoulder, and a short angled spout. The body is decorated with vertical carved ribs, revealing the buff stoneware beneath a rich dark brown glaze that stops neatly above the footring. The base is unglazed, exposing the coarse clay typical of northern kilns.

This type of jug was produced at kilns in Henan province during the Song dynasty, reflecting the bold decorative vocabulary of northern wares, where contrasting carved and slip-painted designs were highly valued. Such ribbed vessels were often used for storing and pouring wine and show both practical utility and visual refinement.
