Carved in the round from buff sandstone, the Buddha seated in dhyānāsana on a double lotus pedestal with draped apron, the hands in dhyāna mudrā. He wears a monastic robe with cascading folds covering both shoulders, the face with a serene meditative expression beneath arched brows and downcast eyes, the hair arranged in tight snail-shell curls rising to a domed ushnisha. Remnants of polychrome pigment visible throughout.

The sculptural style of this piece—with its compact, slightly block-like modelling, the treatment of the drapery, and the oval face—closely relates to Northern Qi Buddhist statuary from Hebei and Henan provinces, often excavated from temple sites and cave shrines.

Condition Report:
Overall weathered surface with expected losses and abrasions commensurate with age. Chips to the edges of the pedestal and tips of some lotus petals. Minor losses to curls of hair and edges of robe. Remains of red and blue pigment still visible in recessed areas. No significant structural repairs visible.
