This finely potted jar is characterised by its well-balanced globular body rising to a short, neatly finished neck. It is covered overall with a lustrous dark glaze, pooling subtly in places to reveal tonal variations that enhance the depth and vitality of the surface. The restrained form and monochrome glaze exemplify the aesthetic refinement and technical confidence of northern Chinese ceramic production during the Yuan dynasty.

Vessels of this type were valued for their functional strength as well as their understated elegance, reflecting a taste for robust yet harmonious forms.
