This elegant porcelain cup is delicately enameled with a rich yellow ground, decorated with finely executed chrysanthemum blossoms in grisaille, accented by fluttering birds. The floral motifs symbolize longevity and resilience, while the flying birds add a sense of movement and harmony. On one side, a four-character Yongzheng reign mark 永慶長春 (Yǒng qìng cháng chūn) appears in underglaze red at the base, meaning “Eternal Celebration, Everlasting Spring,” a poetic phrase alluding to renewal, prosperity, and enduring vitality.
The interior remains pure white, emphasizing the contrast between the luminous glaze and the restrained monochrome floral decoration. Yellow-ground porcelains of this period are particularly rare, as they were reserved for imperial use within the Qing court.
This piece exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibility of the Yongzheng period, celebrated for its restrained elegance and technical perfection in porcelain production.
