The steeply flared sides rising from a short foot to a gently everted rim, the exterior finely decorated in reverse technique with white blossoming flowers and leafy sprays reserved against a rich black ground. The interior left plain and glazed white. The base bears a neatly painted iron-red six-character seal mark Qianlong nian zhi (Made in the Qianlong reign), apocryphal.
This cup belongs to the revival style of the late Qing and Republic era, when artisans looked back to admired imperial precedents of the Qianlong court while exploring striking contrasts in decorative techniques. The reverse decoration, with its bold monochrome ground setting off delicately drawn floral motifs, reflects this taste for refined yet dramatic design.
