Porcelain, enamelled in famille verte colours with iron-red and black outlines. The tile finely painted with a continuous narrative scene depicting a group of scholars engaged in conversation around a low table in a garden setting. One figure plays a qin (zither), while attendants offer refreshments, all set beneath pine trees, pierced rockwork and drifting clouds. The composition is animated by subtle gestures and expressive facial features, conveying a refined literati gathering.

The palette of soft greens, aubergine, yellow and iron-red, combined with precise line drawing, is characteristic of late Qing famille verte revival wares, inspired by earlier Kangxi-period figural scenes but rendered with a distinctly late 19th-century decorative sensibility.

The reverse plain, showing kiln marks, firing rings and areas of surface wear consistent with age.

Such porcelain tiles were produced for architectural and decorative use, often set into wooden screens, wall panels or furniture, and were also collected individually in Europe as pictorial objects.
