Modelled as the laughing Buddha seated upon a rocky outcrop, his corpulent body shown with an exposed chest and rounded abdomen. The smiling figure is draped in flowing robes decorated with circular medallions and floral motifs, while a yellow shawl adorned with delicate flower sprays falls over one shoulder. In his right hand he holds a string of prayer beads terminating in a green tassel, and beside him rests a cloth sack, an attribute traditionally associated with Budai, the popular manifestation of Maitreya.

The figure is covered in a lustrous glaze and finely painted in famille rose enamels, with the rocky base rendered in mottled shades of green, brown, and black. The underside is left unglazed and impressed with an apocryphal seal mark.
