Of squat cylindrical form with short spout and loop handle wrapped in rattan, the surface cast in relief with a willow tree extending across the body, the branches finely detailed against a textured ground. A small toad is also depicted beneath the tree, symbolising good fortune and long life. The detachable iron lid is topped with a gilt-metal finial in the form of a pinecone.

The kettle is darkly patinated with areas of oxidation from long use, the underside showing a naturally worn surface. Such kettles, known as tetsubin, were prized in the Japanese tea tradition not only for their utility but also for the refinement of their designs, often featuring nature motifs rich with symbolic meaning.
