China, Qing dynasty, Kangxi six-character mark and of later period (19th century)

The vase is of hexagonal section, rising from a slightly splayed foot to a broad shoulder and tall waisted neck, flaring at the rim. Each of the six sides is decorated with alternating panels: dragons finely painted in iron-red enamel among waves and flames, roundels of flowering plants, and landscape or floral motifs in famille verte enamels of green, yellow, aubergine, and iron-red on a dense diaper-pattern ground. The neck is decorated with upright floral panels interspersed with further latticework, the rim plain white.

The base bears a six-character Kangxi mark in underglaze blue within a double circle, but the enameling and style indicate a 19th-century Qing production, when Kangxi revival wares were highly prized.
