The bowl is of compressed globular form with a short splayed foot and gently everted rim. The body is subtly lobed, imitating the form of a melon or gourd. It is covered overall with a pale grey-green glaze suffused with a fine network of crackles, stopping neatly above the unglazed footring, which shows the buff stoneware body. The interior is similarly glazed, with natural variations and areas of darker pooling.

The form and glaze reflect northern Song ceramic aesthetics, particularly those of the Yaozhou and related kilns, which produced refined everyday vessels with elegant shapes and subtle decorative textures. Crackle-glazed examples, prized for their “ice crackle” patterns, were admired not only for their function but also as aesthetic objects for connoisseurs.
