Modelled naturalistically in the form of a gnarled tree root, the teapot finely sculpted with flowing contours, knotting, and textured surfaces imitating aged wood. The spout, handle, and body are organically integrated into the composition, enhanced with small applied details including blossoms and shoots emerging from the root. The cover similarly formed with a raised knop echoing a cut branch.

The stoneware body fired to a rich reddish-brown tone, the surface softly polished from handling. The underside with a recessed base bearing a impressed seal mark reading “Made by Hui Mengchen of Jingxi”, a name traditionally associated with the Yixing teapot-making lineage and frequently used on wares produced in homage to the celebrated master.

Teapots of root form belong to the ziran (naturalistic) tradition of Yixing ware, reflecting the literati taste for objects inspired by nature, valued for both their sculptural quality and practical use in tea preparation.
