The circular mirror is cast in high relief with a central knob surrounded by a dense design of animals amidst grapevines, including birds, deer, and other creatures in lively movement. The outer register continues with grape clusters and scrolling foliage, bordered by a raised rim. The reverse is undecorated, showing areas of patina and encrustation consistent with age.

The motif of animals and grapevines reflects the Tang dynasty’s fascination with foreign decorative themes, influenced by Central Asian and Sogdian art, where the grapevine symbolized prosperity and abundance. Bronze mirrors of this type were both luxury objects and auspicious talismans, admired for their intricate casting and cosmopolitan style.

The present piece, with its finely detailed casting and well-preserved reliefs, represents a rare and important example of Tang dynasty bronze mirror craftsmanship.
