The vase of elegant baluster form with a globular body rising to a tall cylindrical neck and gently everted rim, covered overall with a deep oxblood red (langyao) glaze. The glaze of rich crimson tone, thinning slightly towards the mouth and pooling darker around the lower body, revealing subtle firing variations and a fine crackle network. The glaze stopping neatly above the foot, exposing the white porcelain body.

Langyao glazes, inspired by celebrated Qing dynasty oxblood wares, continued to be produced in the 20th century, prized for their depth of colour and lustrous surface.
