Qi Baishi was over 80 years old when he made this "fishing picture". He expressed his deep longing for his hometown. The picture depicts a grey bench, a fishing rod wrapped with a thin silk thread, and a bamboo basket with two small fish in it, which takes us to the country life.

Although no figures appear, the whole painting is very imaginative. It seems possible to imagine a living world full of vigor and vitality. This is the unique artistic language of Qi Bai shi.
