Of shallow circular form, raised on a flat base, the sides cast with a fine band of linked scrolls beneath the rim, interrupted by a pair of small loop handles with suspended rings. The vessel shows an attractive mottled patina of malachite and azurite encrustation, the surface further enhanced by areas of deep burial accretion.

Bronze basins (pan) such as the present example were important ritual and domestic vessels during the Han period, often used for ablution or as offerings in tombs. The restrained form, refined casting, and well-preserved decorative frieze around the rim typify the technical mastery of Han bronze workshops.
