Of baluster form with a wide flared neck, the vessel stands on a spreading foot. Two ring-handles, each suspended from a taotie-mask, are affixed to the shoulders. The surface bears a mottled green and brown patina with areas of encrustation and age accretion, attesting to long burial. Horizontal bands accentuate the vessel’s silhouette, while the form itself reflects the Hu type, inspired by Central Asian metalwork and adapted into Chinese ritual bronzeware during the Warring States and Han periods.

Such vessels were traditionally used for storing wine or water in both ritual and domestic contexts. The stylistic features of this piece, including its robust form, subtle banding, and taotie ring-handles, are characteristic of early Han bronzeware.
