Cast in bronze, the monkey-god Hanuman is shown kneeling on a square pedestal, his hands held in añjalimudrā (gesture of devotion). He wears a short pleated dhoti, elaborate jewellery including armlets and necklaces, and his long tail curves elegantly behind his back. The head is rendered with stylised simian features, the mouth slightly smiling, and the eyes deeply incised.

A small open bowl rests upon his shoulders and head, supported by his uplifted arms, its rim decorated with pierced lattice and geometric patterns. This bowl may have served as an oil lamp or offering receptacle, underscoring Hanuman’s role as a devoted servant in ritual practice.

The surface is darkly patinated, with areas of green encrustation. The base shows age cracks and wear consistent with centuries of use.

Hanuman, the heroic devotee of Rāma in the Rāmāyaṇa, symbolises absolute loyalty, humility, and strength. His image was widely worshipped across India, particularly in devotional contexts, as a protector and exemplar of bhakti (devotion). This kneeling form emphasises his role as the eternal servant of Rāma, ready to carry offerings and bear the burdens of the faithful.
