Of shallow rounded form rising to a slightly everted rim, covered overall in a rich cobalt-blue glaze, the interior finely gilt with a large archaistic vase flanked by scrolling handles and containing a profusion of stylised flowers, all above a lappet foot. The cavetto encircled with a continuous gilt scroll border below the rim. The reverse similarly blue glazed.
This type of deep sapphire-blue glaze combined with gilding was especially popular under the Daoguang and Guangxu emperors in the 19th century, echoing earlier Kangxi and Qianlong prototypes but with a distinctively opulent finish.
Condition Report:
The glaze retains a good, even cobalt tone. Expected minor rubbing and wear to the gilt decoration, particularly in the central panel. Small scratches and surface abrasions to the well. One or two minute frits at the rim; no visible cracks or repairs.
